Also with DeForest Kelley and Wallace Ford.
Definitely one of the best westerns ever made. With a very young Gregory Peck, a very young Richard Widmark and a very young Anne Baxter, superb supporting actors – and directed by William Wellman. Almost too much talent in one movie. A well made western with the great Gregory Peck and the equally great Richard Widmark. A film well ahead of its time showing the conflict between good and evil – and that gray bit in between – with a fine script and excellent performances all round. The real star of this fine Western is the cinematography; gritty, stark, forboding…just like the fashionable film noir of the time.Try getting this mood on iPhones! The moral of the film is; if there’s gold in them there hills, there’s also bullets and death. Another moral is: if you smell to high heaven, you will still pull the female lead.
Garden of Evil 1954
